Are you thinking of the Model Y third row? Because the Model X is actually decently sized. Definitely better than something like a CX-9.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills - so many reviews of this car claiming it competes with a Model X and it just doesn’t.

This is very true. My current RV is a slide-in truck camper built by Livin’ Lite. Their big selling point was aluminum framed with composite panel construction, which means that even in the case of a leaky roof it isn’t going to rot because there’s no wood at all.

The first and most important rule of RV ownership is this:

I got stuck once in my Ram 3500! The truck has the rotary dial shifter which won’t let you shift gears unless it’s running. One day I had to park on a steep dirt hill and apparently the fuel level was too low when parked on the slope, effectively running it out of gas.

They’re all over the place here in the high Rockies. Dirt cheap, rugged, goes anywhere. I strongly debated getting one this spring as a stop-gap after turning my Bolt in for a buyback, since the replacement I really wanted wasn’t out yet (Ioniq 5).

I completed a buyback (technically, MSRP swap) on my 2019 Bolt back in March and boy am I glad I did. At that time the recall was only for 2017-2019 cars and GM was still suggesting that they were going to issue a software fix. Now that it’s all Bolt and Bolt EUVs made and the fix requires a battery replacement - when

I’ve owned two V70Rs, one of which was an ultra-rare 2006 in Sonic Blue with the manual trans. Fun cars, but they ate me alive.

From what I understand the rotary works well for this application because it doesn’t have to spend time in the low RPM range, which is where rotaries have issues. It’s either not running at all or spinning at some presumably optimal RPM range as a generator.

They just announced that the rotary range extender is on hold indefinitely. IMO a PHEV with 100+ miles of electric range would be an absolute game changer - there’s still nothing out there with much more plug-in range than a 2nd gen Volt.

I always just assumed elementary school kids in the Detroit area recite “Lose Yourself” every morning instead of the Pledge of Allegiance.

This wasn’t so much embarrassing but it was pretty funny. Years ago I was in Brazil for work and decided to take an extra weekend and fly out to see Iguaçu falls, which is right on the Brazil / Argentina / Paraguay border. On the Argentina side there are walkways right up close to the precipice itself, so I planned to

The battery issue has been traced to faulty cells produced by LG Chem in South Korea, at the same factory that produced the faulty Hyundai Kona cells.

This is exactly why I (successfully) pushed for a buyback on my 2019 Bolt rather than trust a software fix to address a hardware problem. GM is following the path Hyundai took with their Kona fires almost exactly so far. The next step for Hyundai was to do battery swaps for all affected cars, seems like GM will be

The DeTomaso Pantera actually swiped tail lights from a 1967-1971 Alfa Romeo Berlina. So the Bricklin Pantera tail lights are really Alfa tail lights.

You bought a 3/4 ton Suburban with a big block V8 - nature’s perfect tow vehicle. Why on earth don’t you just beg, borrow, steal, or even (god forbid) rent a camping trailer? You really plan on living for a month during the summer without running water, a flushing toilet, a fridge, and air conditioning?

Big Island != Oahu. More space, fewer people, longer distances, higher speeds.

When my kid brother turned 16 in the late ‘90s my dad was in pretty lousy financial straits but wanted to get him a car. Ended up with an absolutely trashed 4 cylinder ‘79 Mustang. First year of the Fox Body.

Sure, I’ll just have my 10 year old drive the third UHaul.

One of my favorite Pratchett insights.
