There are some that offer an option to race for position. Usually, if they offer a league, the rules are racing for position on track. At least, in my experience. Most do timed laps, though.

That’s the point, though. You can’t just let the retaliation cycle, especially on ovals where other cars that have nothing to do with the scrap get caught up. Letting drivers sort out vengeance on track will lead to an utter shit show and a lot of torn up cars for teams that can’t afford it, not to mention more…
