The Animal Simpsons from the end are a direct reference to "The Island of Doctor Hibbert", from Treehouse of Horror 13, where the residents of Springfield are all metamorphosed into various animals (Chief Wiggum becomes a pig, Comic Book Guy is a goat for some reason, Disco Stew becomes Disco Shrew, and so on).
