To those who would say this is a waste of money and time or that he could never get his money back, I say you are looking at it the wrong way. He is gaining invaluable hands on experience related to mechanical engineering. He has gone beyond the text books and put his hands on real mass-produced assemblies, heat

Wankel powered Delorean. As god intended it.

$100k for a brand that can, among other things, be disabled by loose pocket change... True story, well at least for it's predecessor. When I worked at a shop we had an early 2000's L322 Range come in. It had been at the dealer because the customer couldn't get in to park. The dealer couldn't figure it out/didn't want

I agree, but I would much rather cross paths with a VA State Trooper than a Western Henrico Cop.

Yes, the AZ-1 deserves to be on this list! Gull wing turbo Mazda kei car!

Ah! And I thought I had some cool toys!

Immediately thought of this LeMons team.

It's the little things. To me, spotting a car lover is a business of subtleties. Parts are clean and tidy that normally aren't. The interior isn't trashed. The paint looks like it has been waxed a couple times a year and doesn't have swirls from the flappy cloth auto wash. The engine and brakes sound healthy. Easiest

GETRAG or GO HOME. If my E28 experience is any example... went from a ZF auto super ETA to a getrag 5sp regular ETA. Night and day in acceleration, the ZF killed that car. CP because of the auto.

I kid you not, I was driving behind my friend on our way home from high school on 33 in Louisa, VA. As I watched helplessly, a plastic bag blew up and went over his head. Temporarily blinded, his Scirocco swerved onto the shoulder at 60mph, kicking up all manner of dirt and rocks onto my (luckily) plastic Saturn SL2.

Oh... but I kinda like the smurf blue!

Phoenix Gold (Barf) Metallic

People either get it or they don't. To me it's such an amazing creation of the human mind, a true feat of engineering and imagination. I want to experience that, to be a part of it. But that takes a certain kind of insanity. To knowingly invest in an engine that has a shorter life span seems crazy to some, but those

As the votes show this is teetering on the edge of NP/CP. On the one hand this would make the perfect beginnings of a track monster and it is a looker to boot. Me thinks you would be hard-pressed to find a more capable chassis for that dough. On the other hand there is the salvage title and the engine downgrade. Yes,

As a long time rotary owner and mechanic I can tell you that something is wrong with your setup to go through 2 engines in 13k miles. The original *long block* in my FD lasted 130k. That's the turbos and everything. With a rebuild I have 15k of hyperdrives, auto-x's and commutes under it's belt and am hopeful for 85k

Combined material weldments. This is more of a manufacturing process, but it does involve the intelligent use of materials: Weldments (subframes, chassis, etc.) joined together using stir welding. Unlike metal arc welding, stir welding can create a stable joint between dissimilar metals. For example: steel and

fckyoswagg has a pretty good point there. and a nice handle.

And as a heat engine you would want to retain as much heat as possible to increase efficiency, right? Also, I am under the impression that flame propagation would also be ideal if you were to initiate burn in the middle of a sphere, at least it would be better than in the case of a rotary.

I think you are correct... that's not how interest works. By that logic, we would all be very wealthy just from bank interest rates.
