Diesel's are torquey little things. Definitely fun in a small lightweight car. I've seen a few diesel conversions. Most interesting was a Jaguar XJS. Find a cheap Z3/Z4 with a dead engine and a written off diesel with OK motor and have at it.
Let the designers and engineers have free reign and then tell marketing and finance to do whatever it takes to make and sell them for less than $20K. Including, but not limited to, selling the corporate jets and taking back the executives bonus's and retirement payments as they didn't do sh!t to earn them.
