This is easy to answer. Porsche added functions like this so they could charge more for their package upgrades.

This is my biggest design peeve; fake things in general (fasteners, wood, etc...) but the fake grills really grind my gears. The new Civic’s rear fake grills are the worst. It’s lazy design, and I honestly don’t know why it’s not shamed more in the design community. It makes the car look like a kid’s toy.
