My friend Rachel has a pretty assertive but effective response to the "are you in the wrong bathroom?" question (not that it has happened to her in years).

"In five years you're going to look up and not one of your family members is going to be here."

She's so amazingly gracious, especially her line "everybody's in transition." It is hard to go from thinking of somebody as one gender to another. That's a deeply profound switch. And if everybody took a breath there might be a tiny bit less violence, anger and loss that mars so many people's journeys.

that transitioning thing legitimately has given me chills. that is some fucking next level, goddess-like thinking. would that we could all be that fucking thoughtful.
