Well, I’m no fan of the Clintons, far less US imperialism, but I’m also a responsible realist, and surely stopping pussy-grabbing, wall-building, Muslim-banning Trump would have been the first priority for Lisa Simpson, as it was for many of us non-cartoon characters.

And it was such a brilliant move to give Jacqueline exactly the sort of conventionally handsome, fame-seeking guy she would have previously gone for so that she could realize she’s moved beyond that.

There was a lot that I liked about the third season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Xanthippe has a talk show! Gretchen has her own cult!) Perhaps its best move though was recasting David Cross’s character, and then writing the character off the show entirely.

Now playing

There is an actual name for this phenomenon, it’s called the Backfire Effect. When someone is proven wrong, they actually dig their heels in more. Being proven wrong has shown to activate the same part of your brain that registers as physical pain. Even creates a fight or flight response in most people.

And back in my day, Republicans used to *like* the FBI. It’s bizarro world!!

Is there going to be another post about Bernie Sanders playing the same game?

A lot of these people don’t actually care if Russia held improper sway over the election. This is what they cared about: Retribution.

I think it does, though. What she heard was a first-generation WHITE immigrant. She heard an Eastern European accent, not Indian, or Asian, or African. That’s okay with her, as long as they’re the right sort of immigrant.

The darkly hilarious bit to me is that the Reagan coalition’s major motivation (besides racism) was hatred of Russia and fear that we weren’t doing enough to oppose them. 36 years later, the last President of the Reagan coalition was literally installed by Russian interference.

A lot of these people will only dig in deeper as more of this comes out because despite the sophistication of what the Russians did, the average person does not and cannot admit to being wrong or fooled.

Sounds a little like the literal Nazi running for a House seat in Illinois right now. He’s not going to win, but he’s unopposed in the primary. Ugh.

Rebecca Johnson didn’t take her husband’s position, she was just running (I think).

It’s not automatic, just a tradition that the party will accept and promote a candidacy from that person or will appoint them to an open post. The idea is that they are a known entity expected to continue the same agenda, have name recognition, and can play a sympathy card.

That Dan Johnson went out like that was legitimately the least unusual thing about his life. I say this because Dan led a life that was absurd and unbelievable in the extreme. In all seriousness, somebody should do a documentary on him.

Halfway through that second to last paragraph I got a little sad, because suicide is tragic. Then I finished reading that sentence and was considerably, exponentially less sad. Fuck that.

See also everything that the Texas Lege has done in response to Austin’s municipal laws and ordinances, e.g. “sanctuary city” policies and rideshares. They tried to attack bag bans, short term rental regulations (that protect popular, gentrifying neighborhoods from being airbnb wastelands), even tree preservation

This bi...no, I can’t say that anymore. I don’t want to say that.

She cares about local control until the locals do something she (the GOP and Big Business) don’t like. In Minnesota, activists, tired of the inaction of the state legislature (Republican controlled), changed the minimum wage in the city of Minneapolis to $15.00/hour. What did the Chamber and the Business Partnership

The kicker is the Kochs have social skills. Mercer is reported to be a stone cold fucking weirdo and her father is worse.

The Mercers make the Kochs look like Bernie Sanders.
