Seriously, I did one year of graduate school at RISD and dropped out. It was kind of traumatic. When I heard that RISD was one of the Masters programs he was involved in I wished a nervous breakdown on him.

This s reminding me of that time in college I found out that some of my friends were anti choice. They told me that you could hear a baby scream while being aborted. I tried to explain that that was not how sonograms work, but could not.

A few months ago my parents went to sit shiva for the parent of a friend of theirs. While there they discovered that Gerard Smith had a child with one of the other guest daughters. The family already knew he was dying. TV on the Radio is one of my favorite bands. I am truly sad for Gerard Smith's family and the

I am shocked. I had no idea she was sick, this is so sad.

Okay last night I went to see PJ Harvey in concert. It was good, not great in part because she seemed to be keeping the audience at arms length. I got to thinking about how singers create a distance between herself/himself and the audience. PJ has had some famous alters, notably the Vamp, and how she has gone on

You are not fair to Sanctuary.

Last I heard they never found a way to make a profit off of them.

Because they want the instant fan base built in with a known quantity.

In high school I read A Stranger in Strangeland and hated it. Mostly for the dirty old man stuff, but that was coupled by the blind to its own sexism things like the mating habits of Martians. Then in college I read The Dispossessed and it was exactly what I wanted when I heard the formers title.

I do not describe myself as a libertarian, but I highly recommend The Dispossessed. Really fantastically written and it does get deep into that tension between freedom and responsibility.

In wrong reply.

Well said!

Thanks to the gawker artists ads that frequent here I have started my own society 6 blog. So please check it out

But in Adventureland I did not even think og him as awkward!

The last book I read and really loved was Kristin Herch's memoir/revised journal Rat Girl. Can't recommend it enough, especially if you are into the sound track!

I'm re-reading Tender is the Night, but annoyed because I have no idea how much of the stuff about psychiatry is a real reflection on what the profession was like versus a stand in for a writer's career.

Edna, Bertha, Marjorie, Agnes, Agatha

I haven't seen it, but is it just be or was Jesse Eisenberg at his hottest in Adventureland?

Skipped my 10 year high school reunion, but I am kind of overcome by the nostalgia. So thank you for the video. Sleater Kinney was my favorite band in high school, so it is great to see two of them in a super group with other KRS alumnae.

Question: Why can't we let great people be great?
