I liked it well enough, but I need another issue to see where it's going. I'm intrigued by Gleason's writing.

What a massive step-back for Marvel. 4 female writers, and not one person of color. This is basically their equivalent of a New 52 style reshuffle of the same deck of cards.

heard, I feel that way about these above titles too…they're just so exciting and full of energy, and feel nothing like the New 52 launch.

I did about 13 issues and I had to tap out… I found it really messy on the whole

Also worth checking out:
Grayson Vol 1
The NEW Batgirl Vol 1
The above mentioned Black Canary
Midnighter (after you read Grayson especially, as its a spin-off)

Oh no doubt, it's probably my favorite DC book right now. I like the idea of Gotham by Midnight, but the few issues I've tried have only moderately interested me. Still, I like that it exists.

I was kinda tossing a soft-ball there, but yeah, I recognize that the Marvel creative renaissance ended this year for sure.

I recognize that Catwoman is a really well written book, but I hate that I have to jump back about 8 issues to understand what's going on. I'll do it if I have to though!

Speaking of Black Canary, has anyone else noticed just how diverse the Batman line is tonally? I mean, I'd argue it's more varied than some publishers entire output (cough Valiant cough).

Tom King is easily the most exciting new writer at the Big Two, not counting established talents like Gene Luen Yang. The issues of Grayson he scripts are terrific, and I loved the first installment of Omega Men. Can't wait for this! Hopefully he gets handed a big assignment soon, though that would probably sacrifice

DC has promoted some pretty strong talents in recent months, like Tom King and Brenden Fletcher…Robert Venditti just hasn't lived up to hopes I'm sad to say.

I reviewed this stuff for The Beat, but I got through Week 4 of DC's full publishing schedule.

Been on my pull ever since it was announced. Brandon Graham is one of the few creators at Image that I feel actually breaks away from Big Two house-style storytelling, along with Ales Kot and a few select others.

Considering that I saw one of the biggest quarterbacks in my high school get taken down by a lady police officer who was about 5'2", I'd say you're off in your assumption.

Taylor Kitsch pensive BJ face for life!

This is neck and neck with Spirited Away as Ghibli's Finest Film in my eyes. The latter astonishes me in its creativity, the former rips my heart out. I'm glad we have them both.

It's all based on the writer though. Humphries is a terrible writer, so yeah, Ultimate Comics Ultimates' approach to politics would indeed be awful.

Hopefully it'll bounce back from this season, which hasn't worked for me at all, other than the very good subplot for Brona. This past Sunday's episode was especially terrible, cheesy dance montage and all. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the final stretch of episodes brings it all together.

For once, it's a little exciting to be a DC fan, nice feeling.

DC's done a pretty nice job on these new #1's, terrible Lobdell and Earth 2 comic aside, even the Jurgens books weren't as unreadable as his stuff has been the past number of years. I'm really excited about this one, Doctor Fate, Prez, and Black Canary (which looks so awesome) this week.
