Can’t have the riff-raff getting any ideas.

Ah that’s nice, man. My dad worked in IT so we had a steady procession of IBM PCs when I was a kid, although he never really played games on them himself. I’m the black sheep of the family in that regard.

I think part of it for me is that I didn’t own an N64 as a kid, so I have only a small amount of nostalgia. I did play Goldeneye and Turok and so on over a friends’ houses, but I was playing Quake at home at the time and never felt there was much comparison on the FPS front at least. (I was doubtless a real snob about

I couldn’t get past the scrappy art. Does it get better?

I was just about to mention Blackadder. That’s how you give a show a proper send off.

Yeah I’m a little leery of the praise for that controller, it does feel like it’s the nostalgia talking. Don’t get me wrong, I had a great time with the Cube back in the day, but even then, there was no excusing that wretched d-pad. Literally the worst of any Nintendo console, IMO.

Metroid Prime was a transcendental experience that still holds up incredibly well.

Same. I sold all my retro consoles a couple of years ago, the only one I’ve not missed is the N64. Hell, I’d rather have a Virtual Boy.

The price is insane. There’s no other word for it. If it was half the price it’d still be a dubious value proposition.

Yeah. I never liked the guy’s style, not shocked this is all coming out.

I’d guess that there’s a lot of half-truths in the various gaming legends, which have sort of calcified over the years and become accepted as gaming history. For sure there’s plenty of exaggerations, or facts that were only true in certain pockets of the globe.

I think the tonal shift from Alien->Aliens is less jarring than Aliens->Alien 3. I think... but honestly, as mentioned, I’m no doubt a terrible judge of this stuff. I like them too much to be even remotely objective. I even like Resurrection. It’s not in the same league as its predecessors, but it’s not quite as far

He was an icon in Britain.

“Loot box preorder” is some next-level fuckery. Count me grimly impressed.

Nearly everyone I know who likes Aliens is someone who loved it when it was released. Most people I know who saw it later don’t have those nostalgia glasses (and I am one of this group, for full transparency).

I think Aliens 3 is a better film than Aliens

It wasn’t his property to begin with. There were multiple other parties involved and it sounds like they all disagree with what he’s doing.

I’m personally in a bind right now because I can’t update my portfolio with work from several animated shows I worked on over the last couple of years without the O.K. from the studio, so I’m just sitting here jobless at the moment twiddling my thumbs hoping they’ll approve the paperwork I sent in for that.

I don’t know how well a professional sound composer could recreate orchestral music using software. I imagine someone here would be able to weigh in on that.

you can tweak your way to acceptable results.
