i got to go to San Diego comic con with a few professional artists, and got to go to the Sony after party.....Roth was there and got a chance to talk to him for a while....seemed like a super nice guy.....but you could tell he was working the room for sure....

I think Cabin Fever is still Roth’s best work, but Hostel is a close second. Agreed, though, just the first one. The others are garbage.

I don’t recall Hostel being *that* bad, with a fair bit of dark humor (not quite to the same extent as Cabin Fever, but similar). I wouldn’t call it a good, but I’m not quite sure why it became the whipping boy of the torture porn horror trend (to be fair, I also haven’t seen the original since it came out).

Poor kids. I mean... they didn’t make a real zombie, did they? I feel like they’ve been reprimanded as if they’ve created an actual contagious zombie.

Didn’t Roth also make Cabin Fever? I legit dug that one. Pretty much none of the rest of his stuff, and I almost turned off Cabin Fever when his name appeared in the credits.

To be fair, Death Wish does also still seem to fit in with a lot of Roth’s politics, so I can’t help but feel like he still had some degree of investment in that one beyond just the paycheck.

On the one hand, I can imagine the shock. On the other, we’re living in an age where one of the most successful fantasy movie series was helmed by the man responsible for splatter movies like DeadAlive and Meet the Feebles, so I also take it in stride now.

I do find it quite interesting that Eli Roth’s next film is a kid’s movie staring Jack Black. Did you ever, in your wildest dreams, imagine that Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment would tap Eli Roth as a kid’s film director? What was that conversation even like? What made Eli Roth take the job? I know one

I love the Speed Racer movie. I can definitely see where it wouldn’t be for everyone, and that’s fine. But it is still a good, interesting movie with amazing visuals. It is unfortunate Hirsch is so awful... We say that a lot these days though I guess, don’t we?

My favorite thing about Bourdain is that there’s so much tape on him. Go back and watch A Cook’s Tour - the dude is brasher, ruder, less open minded, etc.

I think you’ve nailed the difference in tone.

She deserved an Oscar for ‘Lone Star’.

Now playing

The ending is fantastic. When his son comes down to take him up it’s an incredibly moving moment.

Or how about we don’t attack anybody? For fuck’s sake, I hated the movie quite a lot, didn’t really like Rian Johnson’s attitude in some bits I’ve seen, but I don’t think we need to start stalking him online and yelling at him. He made a bad movie (in my opinion) and I dislike the direction a series I liked is moving

And the late, lamented (extra sadly before she could be in Incredibles 2) Elizabeth Peña is gloriously hot in this.

“Excuse me, sir. SIR! As a fan who disagreed with the technical merits, character beats, and plot points of TLJ, it is my SOVREIGN RIGHT to call prominent women in the cast cunts. How ELSE am I to register my intense displeasure!?”

A lot of people have told me that this movie is great but, well... I disagree. Anyone that has ever read Ambrose Bierce could see the “Twist” coming within about 10 minutes of the start of the movie. To me, the movie is an exercise in weirdness just for weirdness sake and not a truly good film.

The leads...I can’t even get past the movie poster on this one. And I say that as a major 5th Element fan.

I mean...how would we rate it?

It’s an extremely pretty film, but neither the story nor the acting does slighest justice to the source material.
