This is completely selfish, I admit, but beyond any politics or schadenfreude, I was happy with Roseanne ending because it frees up two of Hollywood’s best character actors, John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf, who I felt got roped into repeating roles that they already knocked out of the park, decades ago.

Is it? Are any of the competing services 4k? Is anybody even broadcasting in 4k? I thought all the channels were still running 720/1080 HD

I don’t agree that he is depicting Rick as a character you shouldn’t idolize.

Rick, the show’s mad-ish scientist who prefers to live the most interesting life he can rather than slowing things down to the pace of “normal” people

That is a generous assertion. Rick is an asshole. A self-centered misanthropist who puts his self-indulgence above others to the point of ruining the lives around him,

The anachronistic technology is the consumer technology because society is trying to mimic the Father Knows Best/Leave it Beaver style of life.

Mmmmm...Diahann Carroll. Now that’s some quality eroticism!

Mixed emotions. On one hand, I like my Fallout more post-apocalyptic-y and felt like the series was pushing further and further away from that so pushing the timeline closer to the actual war makes the setting closer to what I like to play. On the other hand, I’ve never cared for MMO’s and don’t really want to play

Back in the Fallout/Fallout 2 days, Tim Cain specifically said that his view was, with the advancement of technology, America had regressed into nostalgia and had remade itself in the image of 50's America. I don’t know if the “divergence” is canon but it isn’t for an old-ass player like myself.

I’m not? I’ll agree that I’m basing it, somewhat, on the opinions of the people that I know but I’m also basing it on the fact that there has been a precipitous drop in ticket sales after TFA (with the possibility of an even further drop after TLJ with Solo) and watching “new” Star Wars toys fill up the clearance

Yeah, it’s a pipe dream.

I dunno, they made a fortune off TFA but they haven’t made anywhere close to that with any of the successive films. If Solo ends up under-performing, as it appears that it might, it could be a sign of declining interest in the franchise and negative growth and that is exactly what a business wouldn’t want. They want

True, though I think most people feel that, whatever trials come from the next phase, Marvel is in safe hands with Kevin Feige. If there is one thing that other franchises (including Star Wars) is missing, it’s a strong executive with the right appreciation of the franchise along with a talent for finding and working

I agree that if Star Wars was rushed, it wouldn’t be regarded as it is today though I personally attribute it’s success to a talented creator who, at the time, had both a strong vision and a willingness to listen and work with collaborators.

I think Disney really needs to rethink how they are handling the Star Wars franchise. Most of the movies have been disappointing (to varying degrees) for most fans and they haven’t hit the right formula of fanservice, originality, and narrative that, say, the Marvel movies have. I think even if the movies were good

I remember seeing this film back in the 80's. I had seen a review on Siskel & Ebert and, intrigued, sought it out. This is, far and away, Schrader’s best film. It’s beautifully shot and smartly conceived. It also made me interested in Mishima’s work which I actually never ended up liking. Mishima managed to write

You’re right, McLevy is wrong. Liefeld was in a Levi’s 501 commercial, not the Gap.

Nah, screw that. The vast majority of the world lives in utter poverty and you and I make hundred times more than they do and we can still not enjoy our jobs. Just because somebody makes more than you do, doesn’t mean that they can’t be unhappy with their job or work environment.

I hear that The Leftovers became good. That’s good and I’m glad that many of you like it. I never sat around for it to become good, I don’t know if I ever will.

It’s just that it’s ridiculous (though, kids today really seem to enjoy goofy things being specifically done in public so I’m sure that gets it extra points)

Hiroyuki Sanada is severely underutilized in Hollywood.

Not only is he a wonderful actor but his English is really good (as opposed to, say, Ken Watanabe who is also a wonderful actor but far less comfortable with his English)

Ever since I watched The Twilight Samurai (which is a great movie that I highly recommend),
