Also, here’s something to bring it back down a notch.

With the Spencer bit, I think we have reached peak TV. I just don’t think it can get any better than a politician chasing you bare ass first yelling USA.
i lost my shit when the Georgia State Rep completely umprompted just starts yelling the N word over and over.
God, me too. The Report was brilliant. I went to several tapings. I almost left him out of my comment because criticizing Colbert just makes me too sad, but his show now just isn’t that good. Ironically, I also feel like his politics were somewhat bolder left when he was playing a right wing caricature.
The original comment happened to mention Samantha Bee specifically. You may have noticed that I also went on to make a general critique of the other late night hosts from that comment. If you want me to rip into Trevor Noah, Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert (loved the Report, but his current show sucks), John Oliver, Seth…
Well, first of all, it’s kind of throwing stones in glass houses for the AV Club to be complaining about a comedy show attacking the right wing, considering the ostensible pop culture site the AV Club has become mostly about jabbing at Trump in every single article. (Not that he doesn’t deserve it, but the political…
Baron Cohen is depansting these people. He’s vastly better than Samantha Bee, who mostly just yells (not even makes actual jokes, just shouts in the general cadence of one) as if that’s supposed to qualify as satire somehow. I loved Stewart, but he did inadverently give rise to all these clapter machines that just do…
We have to crap on good things because they aren’t miracles. The fact that this 1) looks really entertaining, and 2) really got under the skin of a bunch of truly terrible people, isn’t enough. Wake me when this show impeaches Trump singlehandedly.
Are you saying that Trump would still have won even if Jon Stewart had not retired?
No mention that he also got Joe Walsh (the terrible one) and Sheriff Joe Arpaio (the pardoned hate criminal) to also object publicly to the interviews they signed releases for?
One of the reasons I really love John Mulaney’s “horse in a hospital” bits is that it’s one of the few takes I’ve seen that’s really captured both the absurdity, and our collective shrugging acceptance of said absurdity, of Trump’s presidency. I particularly like his response to Trump voters (“the people who opened…
It’s gonna be a real bummer when we all end up in concentration camps because satire was the only weapon we tried to employ in the name of decency and outrage.
The Joker isn’t some psychological virus; he’s an evil clown from a comic book. Ledger was an adult man with adult issues, dealing with drug addiction, family issues and health problems before his involvement in The Dark Knight, and he died because of them, not because he got too deep into the churning black oblivion…
Then there’s fun. that has a period AND intentional lowercase. Their first album (Aim and Ignite) was far better than their second (which leaned way too hard on the radio pop production and less on the indie pop). I’ll never be able to hear “Be Calm” and not be immediately transported back to senior year of college…

I came here for this and wasn’t disappointed. I raise my glass to you, sir.
Looks like Dwango didn’t expect Miyazaki’s opinion to be so [puts on sunglasses] unchained.
That’s a lovely way to approach it. I already seek out an inordinate number of films across all lines, so I’m not as concerned about discovery. (Two most recent favorites I highly recommend: Lucrecia Martel’s ZAMA and Lynne Ramsay’s YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE.)
Consensual sex is newly right at 15 in France. It was lower/ not set down in law before then. Which is weird and gross
