I've always thought the brand sounded more like a headache pill than a car company.

I reckon it's fastest car through the Elk test partially because you wouldn't believe what's quickest....

The Ferrari F50's SFE 4.7 VJGAEA V12. It had over 100hp per litre, 5 valves per cylinder and was a development of Ferrari's 1992 F1 engine. There are more powerful, more advanced (although it is a structural part of the car) and more durable engines out there but the noise is something else. I've experienced it in

Took the thought right out of my mind. The GT3s that benefited from that extensive racing career are going to be sure fire future classics of RS magnitude. The noise, especially the RS 4.0, makes me go weak at the knees.

Considering the current fascination with lightweight construction, economy, low carbon emissions and a raised seating position, I vote the Audi A2. Sure, the DS may be cool and the Tucker innovative but I don't see many modern rear engined, air-cooled cars with self levelling suspension and enclosed rear wheels. The

Bugatti Veyron for sure. How many special editions does one car need? It feels like their just flogging the world's fastest dead horse.

I vote Brighton or most UK cities for that matter. No one has winter or even all season tyres, there is no gritting until it's too late and the British just panic at the slightest hint of snow. The result is the above image....

Lol, there is definitely some truth in your comment about it being better!

Very true, SLRs are pretty vulgar standard anyway too.

This was my initial thought, truly hideous.

Easy, Alice Cooper's V8 DS. All the amazing technological advances removed and replaced with Detroit pig iron.

The oval used in Best Motoring must be in with a shout? I can't find any info from a quick Google but it looks pretty fast.

Mercedes Sprinter. I know it technically isn't a car but sod it, you've accepted MPVs. A Sprinter should be as fast as possible over a given distance, the Merc isn't. Job done!

Enough said.

Here's a period picture showing the front angle. You've got to love it :-)

Many good candidates here but I nominate the Citroen CX newspaper delivery vans. These were coachbuilt in small numbers to allow a ton of newspapers to be transported across the continent at over 100mph. Not only were they fast but they naturally had self levelling suspension and of course, 6 wheels.

I'm getting that too, probably flames as well in honour of big brother Ferrari ;-)

It could have done an 8:30 and I still would be tempted, in the metal/carbon it's stunning...

That view of the Mr 1000 reminds me of a squarer, taller Renault Wind...

Interesting choice but rare as they are, they are also dirt cheap in England. Think a 10th of the price and you're about there. With the remaining $13,500 I'm pretty sure you could get it shipped over along with either a full load of spares or another XM. Everyone should try a proper Citroen at least once though. I've
