It’s just as you say. The movie sucked in ways many video games do because the movie was made the same (wrong) way those games are: end to beginning and bullet-point driven.
Blunt Talk was amazing!
That would be a major mistake. The Orville is a stale retread of TNG. Discovery is at least trying something new.
At this point, the biggest thing keeping me from watching The Orville is the Orville bros invading every single Star Trek-related thread to talk about Not Star Trek.
Yeah, Magic To Make The Sanest Man Go Mad is a seriously good episode. All the scenery was chewed. Better tham Cause and Effect in my opinion. That’s a pretty high bar.
All I know is if I see just ONE fucking Kazon, I’m out.
The trouble with L’Rell is that she’s a liar. I have no idea what she’s up to. Hopefully we’ll learn more now that she’s a prisoner.
It has no storytelling issues, you just have to be smart enough for the show
Not at all a hot take, it *is* great.
And what taboo and preconceptions did this episode challenge? The “taboo” of being coerced into sex? The “preconception” that it’s wrong to inflict that upon people of other cultures?
Okay, we can stop pretending that Orville is “more positive” than Discovery now. A future where humans are at war against a violent empire is pretty dark, but since it’s a prequel we know things turn out fine for the Federation, and that Star Trek’s luxury space socialist utopia will survive and grow. Whereas the…
Watch Super, she’s one of the most broken characters I’ve ever seen and amazing.
That last bullet point in the post made me chuckle this morning. I’ll never understand these people who get so attached to a product a company makes like its their girlfriend. They will fight on forums over it and get butt hurt if someone says something bad about it. Fan boys are idiots.
I can agree with that, he directs the crap out of the movies I’ve seen of his, they just seem flashier than whats actually there, the real problem I have is the people who argue that he’s making these deep artistic films when he’s really just making competent blockbusters
Yeah, anyone who has ever seen a single McFarlane show or film would know better than to hail him as some sort of champion for women’s rights.
I must be the only one who enjoys watching the Klingon scenes in Klingon. It really helps those moments come alive for me.
I know, I know. I’m a huge giant fucking nerd. But listening to people having real conversations in genuine Klingon is freaking amazing.
It’s remarkable that this show just seems to keep getting better and more enjoyable with every passing episode. This one definitely felt the most like an old-school episode of Star Trek with some updated effects (The party, a little bit of tuned-up violence), especially the ending. At this point, anyone who is trying…
Right now this is my favorite science fiction show. At least until Expanse starts back up. I am enjoying the heck out of it.
Normally I agree that future characters inexplicably obsessing over 20th century popculture is annoying: stupid-Paris, Abrams-Kirk, The Orville, etc.
