This, I think is a big problem for many fans. Discovery isn’t a ‘comfort’ show. Its a show that demands attention, and that’s not just for the subtitles. Its the whole show. You have to watch and think about what you are watching, otherwise you will miss a hell of a lot.

And of Star Trek. Maybe TOS had an overall better first 8 eps. And that’s iffy.

You must be upset then that unlike getting to know the characters slowly, ep by ep, as the main character gets to know them, as opposed to getting stereotypes pushed in your face and then have the writers try, and often fail, to make them interesting the rest of the series?

Then you haven’t been paying attention. Discovery isn’t a show that you watch superficially and then get told the ‘moral’ at the end. I demands you pay attention. Especially to the episode titles, that unlike most ST series, actually are important.

Most ST shows take 30+ episodes to do the same, if they ever do.

As compared to most ST shows, where they are flat out bad for most of the first 2 seasons. Discovery already has an episode I would put in the ST top 10 of all time. Can’t say that for any of the other shows other than TOS.

It helps that the show also has great writing, helping them hit their potential as early in the series as they have.
