"we are no longer supplying Computer Repair kit" - mirror?

Windows 7 - finally a decent OS that makes a lot of these bolt-ons irrelevant.

I was using WMC with plugins like this. Worked well, but keeping them updated was a pain, and in the end I just thought "I'm going through hoops trying to make WMC look like XBMC, so why don't I just use XBMC?" - so I did :p

@Al Iguana: and yes, I HAVE noticed that most people are commenting about Multi-Monitor software rather than BIG monitor software. I guess lots of smaller screens is more common than one big one.

Ultramon, never let me down.

@Scar3croW: I've been patching UXstyle for years, and never had an issue with the patch either during runtime or during Windows updates.

Dunno about that, but the update of Comodo Firewall from a couple of days ago bluescreened my Vista. Had to remote it.

I dl'd the portable version, and there is a ?????.bat file in there that I can't view or open. Anyone know what it does? (call me paranoid....)

@Al Iguana: saying that, if I WAS encoding, I would use Handbrake. Best quality there is. Takes 12 hours to do a movie on my machine though...

@johnnymcnugget: personally - get a 1TB drive, rip your movie (100% quality) using DVD Fab or such, then stick it in an MKV enclosure with MakeMKV. No loss of quality, as you're not encoding. And with a large drive(s) you've no worries about space either.

@Howard Blair: no, your DVD player is old tech. You can still use the last build of handbrake if you want, or lots of other encoders (like Xvis4PSP and such).

Firefox

Got potential. I like the ability to "paint it black" (FB blue grates on me). Gimme chat and groups and I'm sold.

@Al Iguana: although a Spotify plugin would be awesome *cough* #boxee

@Orng: my thoughts exactly. XBMC has plugins for BBC iPlayer (UK) and Youtube, and that's about all I need really - cos let's face it, if I wanted to watch TV then I'd switch the Sky box on :p #boxee

yeah, I can get one of them Ions for £200 and put Linux/Windows and XBMC on it. For something with just Boxee on it I'd pay like £120 or something. #boxee

works on Wii (and has for a while) but the video quality is rubbish... like upscaling a 320x240 blocky jpeggy video to fullscreen 1080p... yuk! no thanks. (No reason Wii can't play the "HQ" vids, except the XL site hasn't been programmed to.

@penguiniator: well, I installed the RC of Karmic the week before, and it worked fine. Then I downloaded the release, reformated and installed - and it wouldn't boot. So what exactly has changed between RC and RTM? Not my machine, my cdroms (I burned 4 of them). It just doesn't boot. It's bizarre. (Think I'll install

@Jacob Ryan McClain: so once I install it, and reboot, I have to reboot back into the cd not to the OS? Didn't happen with the last Linux I installed (last week). Didn't happen with the last Ubuntu release either. Just this one. #ubuntu
