dunno, after all that I installed it (Vista) and couldn't get any open/save dialog boxes to open. Maybe it's not Vista compatible. Ah well

looks like a pastry brush.. which is exactly what I use. £1, bargin :)
The serial only works with the full version covermounted on magazines, not the current trial download.
@tmetzcc325: you're right. But the opinion of most Lifehackers (and Apple computer) is that it's better to have your commonly used icons in a dock, that way they're not spread out all over the screen. They're contained, easy to reach. If you want to launch anything else, there is launchy/vista start/spotlight…
in 20 years when we all operate computers via a 50" multi-touch flatscreen on the wall (like that browser 3.0 thing a while back) I can see interfaces like this coming into play.
nicer, but all this orange and brown is... but I guess that's the beauty of Linux, you can just use another Distro that is more to your liking out-of-the-box, or just customise it.
why not just send them directly over MSN or Yahoo or Skype or something? or even just email them? I'd trust Gmail slightly more than a 3rd party
Comodo, simply because it's free. I won't pay for a firewall on principle, same way I'd never pay for a virus checker on principle. If it exists to cover up holes in the operating system, then it should either be free or the OS manufacturer should pick up the tab imo.
@GeekLing: go into the routers admin control panel and switch it on (if it isn't already switched on)
VOTE: Comodo Firewall
I used to (on 98/Win2K/XP)mod my desktop, shell, everything to hell. I spent more time modding the desktop than I did doing anything.
would we need to switch off vistas "compare 2 files on a network before copying" thingie (forget what it's called)? File copying is certainly faster with it off anyhow.
I got a voip phone for £8 from Tesco a while back. You're supposed to use it with Tesco Internet, but it works fine with Skype (since it is a generic model there are Skype/MSN etc drivers for it online).
Super et al are great for re-encoding web-vids, but if you want to encode a DVD in nearly lossless format for your iPod/MediaPC/Xbox/AppleTV/Playstation, then Handbrake is the only serious contender (without jumping through hoops). It's like the Lame of video, it has a community of devs and users who tweak, encode,…
first thing I do when I install Windows (on any machine, personal, familiy, work) is remove the default desktop icons and replace them with Rocketdock. Desktop icons are sooo Windows 98, dahleeeng...
no Aero, no install. Shame, because it's just what I need
Vote: handbrake (video)
not unless there was one in every major city in which LH has readers: LA, Chicago, NYC, London, Paris, Dublin, Hong Kong etc
yeah, he's turned off transparency.
couldn't see it. Is this a U.S thing?
