My best running out story begins with home - in Anchorage, Alaska. I was driving south to the U.P. of Michigan for a job (bad economy in Alaska since the garbage price of oil). I recruited an uncle-in-law to cannonball the AlCan (Alaska Canadian) Highway in December (not speeding, but only stopping to switch drivers,

I bought a 2001 911Turbo because I wanted to know if they were as good as all get out (and it was recommend by Doug!). That said, it was as pleasurable to drive as everyone says, but the interior quality was awful (996 specific, I think), it had a great deal of engine, road, and wind noise (all older 911s), its stupid

You have made me jealous and homesick. I grew up in Anchorage and now live in the Mid-West off and on for the last 5 years. Super homesick. I miss it dearly. Thank you for the photos. Michigan (even with the UP and “the Lake”) doesn’t stack up. Very nice, but not home. Cheers,

My apologies. Cheers :)

No more pedantic than the cucumber. Thanks for your thought. Classy.

I am going to be That Guy for a second, only because misuse of “rare” and “unique” is a pet peeve. “Rare” means not very many and “unique” means there can be only one (highlanderish). I.e. it is redundant to say “this is really unique.” In this case, it may or may not be expensive or exclusive but rare probably fits

I’m from Alaska and now live in North Dakota where I winter drive my 996 turbo. Can confirm about anything can be driven in the snow with good tires and not get stuck or crash. Only other caveat is that experience in snow helps :)

Prosecutor here. Can confirm.

Had a 1991 ragtop mustang gt with some money in the motor, gearing, and suspension. I never crashed into anyone or crowds. As a college kid who purchased and built the car with good summer jobs in the oil industry it was my pride and joy. Can’t beat top down driving! Now I have a Porsche 996 Turbo. Sun roof is

That looks like the 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham my folks had when I was a kid. I loved that car. Maylais era or not, it will always have a special place in my heart. Ours was white on burgundy. Super sentimental. Thanks for bring back that memory, Patrick. It made my rough week a little better. :)

Tyler, can confirm. Based on Doug’s high praise of the 996 Turbo I started looking into them and bought one of the least expensive 996 turbos in the country. Brought it home about a month ago. I have an office job and expect to do some wrenching on the car in spare time (two radiators just died/puked fluid everywhere

Noose? Snare?

You, sir, need more stars! I had a 91 fox mustang GT and loved every second of driving it in college. And... I never ran over a person or other car. Must be a newer mustang trend :)

Literally just bought a 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo with 100,000 miles, sight unseen from a big Porsche dealer. Here’s hoping it’s a “deal” and not a “nightmare.” I look forward to wrenching on it for maintenance and occasional repairs, though!

Moaaaaawwwwwwr Fiddy songs need to be mixed like this.

I’m not sure whether I should be thanking your cursing you. WTF did I just see? Wow.

Sweeeeeeeeeeed acres are the place for me *bum-bum*

Nice find! I remember seeing these around when I was a kid in Anchorage and being confused when the post office switched to the frumpier-looking mail trucks used in the lower 48 -not that I knew they were used everywhere else- They were driven, almost exclusively, by high school kids when the post office sold them.

*Pongo glares at you with one squinty eye*
