io9 use the word reboot, but not Netflix. So I’m thinking this is more an adaptation than anything else.
Korra did have a few episodes that looked at the first benders — and maybe the first Avatar? I can’t quite remember.
Korra’s great! You should watch it if you have the opportunity. But you’re on the money with modernizing the series too much. Korra already handled those themes beautifully and I’m not sure what else there would be left to say about that in the Avatar world.
Just put the bloody entire series in theaters.

They’ve actually been doing graphic novel sequels to Avatar for the last six years (through Dark Horse) and they’re worth a look.

Wow was this a missed opportunity. The voice of Kitt from Night Ridder, Jarvis from the Iron Man movies, The Voice from the computer on Star Trek, there are about a hundred iconic voices from Sci fi and pop culture and millions that would buy androids just for this feature alone. Because who wouldn’t want Optimus…
Because, and bare with me here, the vast majority of people who watch the show don’t pick it apart like online critics do. They enjoy it for what it is: a dumb, self-serious, zombie romp with some interesting drama and visceral action. Personally, I’ve yet to see a season I didn’t enjoy.
