Heh, PC vs consoles debate again. I wonder when people will realize that all the benefits of consoles are on the game developer and hardware seller side. There isn't anything there for gamers which could not exist without the platform.

I took me less than an hour of playing STO to realize I had played this game a dozen times before. It takes virtually all established MMO mechanics and norms, and slaps a Star Trek theme sticker over the part that says

@phicaluk: He posted a picture of himself, with his baby daughter on one lap and a mac on the other - smug grin over face and the demeanor of a suave mofo who just got under the skin of the biggest douche in Australian politics. He's also a second year law student or something.

So basically, this is how the ESRB recruits people.

Huh.. I've been on /b/ and /a/ plenty and seen those images posted - especially Hanako. But I never knew it was an initative that began from the board. Go figure ~_~

@cabjf: I am not even remotely surprised. I'm just sad. HDAO and tessellation would add so much to unit detail if done right.

If people can figure out how to play this game on a mobile phone or tablet pc that doesn't lead to getting massively owned, you'll probably end up thanking Blizzard for the low requirements.

Live action made the trailer far better than it ought to be. The suit assembly thing is a rip from the SC2 teaser though. And the whole thing looks like Halo.

@gblock: and lust.. right? hot tears of lust.

@cowfish13: Wouldn't matter to me, I don't own a console. Its just that.. I don't know what happened there. Usually I think things through.

Well, crap. That was one stupid impulse buy.

@NitrousO: Oh I understand the rationale, but more future proofing is always nice. SupCom runs just fine with a $100 gpu or any mid-range card from the past two years (like my 8800GT).

Graphics look like they're still using the same engine as SupCom 1. :/

Ice cold liquid diamond, huh? Damn, I'm getting thirsty already. I wonder how long until someone trademarks it for overpriced champagne?

Not that graphic, the sound effects add more gruesome than the visuals. For a DX11 title, you'd expect better. But all they're really doing is HDAO and tessellation, the textures and base models are still pretty consoleish. The blood burst especially looks like a water balloon full of vomit exploding.

@Paradox me: Having none whatsoever is not the default mode for PC shooters. Ergo, its regression any way you look at it. The only difference between the two companies is how bad.

@KarmaKamikaze: Space is the just setting, the mechanics of actual fighting are no different from any other typical MMO. Click enemy, use your hotkeys to use abilities and weapons. The only difference is your ship is usually in a constant state of forward movement, whereas ground based games don't do this. The

Played the beta, and what I saw was pretty much what I expected: A quick and dirty IP cash grab. Its like playing any other fantasy MMO, to the point where I was awed at how low-risk of a development strategy they managed to pull off and how seamless (or rather, irrelevant) the transition to sci-fi/space is. There is

I don't get the picture of Tim Allen saying "this story horrifies me". Wouldn't he be like "Should've used the Binford table saw with optional euro converter, argh-argh-argh"
