i did a carnaval in salvador, brazil about 17 years ago. those 40 days of rest and reflection after mardi gras were well needed. it was non-stop for 10 days, i have never participated in a real carnaval before. it was exhausting. i would do it again in a minute. :D

the one dive bar that sticks out in my head was one in big bear, california. ski resort town, mountains due east of LA. small, disreputable looking outside and inside. you could smoke there inside, despite laws against smoking indoors, they did not care. but the thing that stuck out was that from its ceiling was hung…

probably the best cough medicine that i have ever had is Toplexil, caramel flavoured syrup. it’s damn good, and a normal dose knocks you on your ass! the pharmacist once asked if i wanted the sugar-free version, and i looked at them in horror. :D

man, how can you not include canadairs ? they may not have the biggest capacity, at about 1600gals, but they can fill on the fly in 14 seconds. when we had wildfires last year in south france, they ran constantly, filling up in the gulf of st tropez, 3-4 planes at a time. i cannot imagine how many drop they were…
