Because this is, sadly, what Kotaku has evolved into.

This site cares less about just reporting news and instead prefers to spin it and sensationalize it. It's become annoying and ridiculous.
My problem is that hiding a feature - even if it’s a cheat - beyond a limited, physical thing that inevitably gets snatched away by scalpers is already a shitty enough practice, so I don’t see the need to pretend like Nintendo created a brand new QoL mechanic just to sell a thing, instead of adding a thing to a…
I just want the Amiibo because it’s beautiful.
Well sure, I don’t think anyone is like “yes, I love that they locked a piece of the experience behind a separate toy!” The point here is that people seem *particularly* mad about this *particular* amiibo based largely on some incorrect assumptions about its usefulness. It sucks in the same way that all amiibo-locked…
For real - of all the annoyances in the original game, the bird statues were not one of them. There’s tons of those things! The only scenario this amiibo would be genuinely useful for is returning straight from a dungeon, but the game is literally designed around the assumption you can’t do that, so it’s fine.
Let’s be real here, it’s not actually that useful. It only lets you go from wherever you’re at up to the sky or from the sky to a statue; it’s not a function that allows you to travel to just any bird statue. The game has a ton of statues already, to the point that I remember leaving multiple statues untouched other…
Not to mention unlimited teleporting would pretty much cut out any sort of resource management. It's a cheat, not a QOL feature.
I was literally mid-reply when I saw yours—I get the worrying about locking game content behind physical purchases, especially when it’s not a toys-to-life game like Skylanders or Disney Infinity, but fast travel has always been in the game, and the statues are pretty much never more than an enemy away.
Im struggling to think how much benefit that amiibo really is. I think i lost my shield once in the og game but otherwise i didnt feel the need to bounce up and down mid quest. There just wasnt much to do in the sky
Yeah, I think this their way to try to combat bots would be my guess. Rather than a scalper having bots attempt to scoop up 10,000 pre-order spots in milliseconds, now that same scalper would have to pony up $50,000 to do that. This is one of those areas where individuals paying a token fee is negligible but a single…
I mean the $5 preorder (which goes towards the purchase) is the best way to do this in the time of console and GPU shortages. Plop down your $5, get on the waiting list and get your console when your number comes up in the queue. I wish Nvidia or Sony took this approach.
Good news: it looks like each model will have a SD card slot.
Just saw and personally love this anti-scalping measure:
My genuine hope is that this is successful enough to get Nintendo to modernize some of their business practices for the Switch 2. Heck, just give me a functional way to communicate with the people on my friends list and I’ll shut up.
You can no longer tell how many comments an article has before clicking on it. Who’s bright idea was that? : /
I think this may be the only switch game I intend to play with joycons. I love my pro-controller, but I want to simulate that Skyward Sword experience
I’m looking forward to playing this for the first time.
