How do they (try to?) prevent static charge generation, which can kill electronics? The combination of wool and plastic is often a bad mix for electronics.

Launchy's development appears to be either stagnant or dead.

@areus2go: If you're only looking for safe web access on wifi hotspots, check out Gina's old LH article: [lifehacker.com]

Wouldn't it be easier to just use the standard windows directory/file access permissions? This has the advantage of working at any level: directories and files, and not just entire drives.

Meh, I'm still waiting for google to actually support multiple contact groups with their exchange-based smartphone sync. Supporting only one list of contacts may be fine if you have no friends, but it's rather impractical for many people.

@PatrickHoulihan: Same here. I just send a twitter message to start tracking a package, and the replies/statuses get autoforwarded to email and SMS.

For us accursed windows users, I've found that recuva works best for recovering accidentally-deleted pics from a memory card.

Older applications will dump user data below "c:\Program Files". You can only avoid backing this up if you know that none of your apps store data there .... #windows

Hehe, what I'd really like to read are the other LH editors' blogs on making one of these ... :-) #diycreations

@WinduSucks: Are these still being made? I bought a couple of old Linksys pap2t's, but stopped using them when gizmo refused to sell me any minutes using any of my credit cards. That was a weird experience, and I was far from being the only one, judging from the complaints that I saw on the foruns. #googlevoice

@Nick P: I generally access email via the web. Beats having to keep multiple copies of thunderbird updated (work, home, & laptop — the configuration, not the mailboxes). Even though I have multiple accounts, everything gets sent to one account, and filters auto-sort them there.

As much as I love to rant on AT&T, my wife and I had a good experience on the one and only time that we contacted customer support. On the iPhone 3GS's release day, my wife was having problems activating her iPhone and we called up support. The initial wait wasn't long and the rep managed to solve our problem,

The old win NT registry change to swap the Ctrl and Caps Lock keys still works in win 7. #windows7

People in major (US) metropolitan areas might want to see if their county or city websites have the inspection reports online. My county has the food inspection reports online, and you can search by restaurant name. However, the inspectors here are supposedly under pressure to find something, no matter how minor,

Sigh, it's practically a browser-killing virus — I can't delete it from my wave inbox. Archive doesn't work, moving it to the trash doesn't work, and marking it as spam doesn't work. I think I'll avoid wave for now. It's just too beta.

lol, total meltdown. It's really slow with chrome, and my FF3.5 just locks up ....

@AltReality: I've also seen occasional weirdness associated with pausing play via the headset and then pulling out the headset. He should try plugging in the headset, and hit the headset pause/play buttons a couple of times, and then pulling out the headset WHILE PLAYING (or pausing first via the touchscreen
