Ugh. Video recordings never get the sound of piston aviation engines right. You really need a professional sound recorder for that.

Turboprop sounds exactly like it is — a tiny jet with a prop.

Saying immediately before because the Navy had some fine new submarines when Pearl Harbor happened. Their torpedoes were shit, of course, but the technology behind them was pretty advanced, too.

I’ve seen a lot of WWII aircraft in flight, and while Fifi (B-29) has a longer wingspan, I’d say the Connie is about as impressive in the air. Only she looks so much faster, sleeker and more modern.

Honestly, submariners and submarines in the US Navy weren’t really given any sort of priority until immediately before WWII.
