The best theory I have seen is that it must’ve gone into a flat spin, which explains the lack of damage. Nobody honestly believes the Iranians hacked it.

The Vincennes didn’t shoot down the Iranian airliner just because it flew overhead. They shot it down because on radar it looked like a jet making an Exocet attack run, it didn’t respond to warnings, and the Iranians had attacked other ships in the Gulf.
