I think it was Car and Driver in an old 24 Hours of Lemons article who said, “GM cars run crappy, but they’ll run crappy for a long, long time.” They were competing with a $500 Oldsmobile with the Iron Duke 4-cylinder, if memory serves.
Honestly, that’s just kinda how GM cars of that era are.

I had an 87 Cavalier. That car would nickel and dime you to death with little things. There was always a sensor, water pump, or something else going out on it, but nothing ever major.
