From the Roadkill article, the on board video of in-the-rain practice laps is worthy of a watch:
I’d argue the medallion scheme is supply suppression by a government actor, but that’s kind of splitting hairs. I fully agree with your point, though: both system’s are F-d.
Lots of Uber drivers were taxi drivers until Uber undercut the entire taxis industry through unfair competition. All Uber has really done is put downward pressure on wages by using investor money to subsidize transportation. If they don’t figure out self-driving cars soon, they’re gonna have to raise rates or they’ll…
Everything I have ever seen from Uber encourages drivers to drive more, not less. There are (or were) popups when drivers tried to end their shifts that said things like “Just X more rides to earn a $100 bonus! Are you SURE you want to stop driving?”
The “gig” claims are garbage from the PR team, which sells BS to the…
But the business model is premised on not having to pay for the real estate the scooters take up. If Bird had to build charging stations, then you’ve internalized the costs Bird intentionally externalized onto society as part of their business model.
The whole point of any economy is that if it isn’t profitable, eventually the worker will stop doing it. But that’s not the point here. California (and a lot of other states) decided that a race to the bottom on wages and working conditions wasn’t in the best interest of society, and enacted labor laws.
Because California is a huge market. If they want access to the customers, someone paid by the company will have to work in California.
Some of it is probably a numbers game. I’m guessing you might not live in a big city. To quote George Carlin: “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” Now imagine they’re running across the street in front of you.
This is just good entertainment for you, and everyone else waiting at the intersection. They should thank you.
There were a few crosswalks near me that before converting to the“WAIT” response, made a beep just like from that song Tainted Love. Good fun to start that up and see if anyone else joins. (Spoiler alert: they…
Assuming this isn’t sarcasm, this is not a great move.
In CA (or other right-on-red state) and you are at an intersection crossing against a red, you may be missing the car at the red light waiting to legally make a turn, and thus you end up flat. Or the oncoming left-turn lane activating a green, and you are out…
Disagree. This didn’t end in violence, so it just boils down to a petty feud, which is a concept as old as recorded history.
If one of them got out and shot the other person, then I’d agree with you.
Drone operator: “Hit! Only 98 red balloons to go!”
California you have to separately order a copy of your bar card.
GTFO with that socialist crap, Bernie Bro. Don’t vote.
I like money and I like good businessmen, which is why I don’t like Trump. The guy is way too focussed on his personal brand than actually making money for himself or his investors, and leadership narcissism has been the downfall of plenty of great companies.
Also, “cautious” does not equal “risk-averse.” He may just…
He can’t even beat the index funds. That isn’t the sign of a good businessman.
“Wants: Good mpgs, not boring, reliable”
It also looks like he doesn’t even have it at full-reverse until about the 10 second mark in the video, loooooong after he’s fully-committed to hitting the bridge.
