I don’t think it’s odd to want to preserve the most successful form of smoking cessation developed, one that’s saved millions of lives, with the potential to save more. I don’t think it’s weird to point out the public health scientists who agree with me, and think the concern over teen vaping isn’t a good reason to

This is not a good way to engage in constructive disagreement. I’m sure there are lots of terrible people who agree with both of us on any number of subjects, but that wouldn’t address the facts in question.

I can find a ton of scientific papers and news articles talking about nicotine addiction and how highly addictive nicotine is. Can you show me any proof that it’s not?

I read the rest of your. Your point that the information I provided is often provided by people who vape and people who support vaping remains vapid and useless.

To have a retraction forced on you, as in Glantz’s case, is to be discredited. https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/JAHA.119.014519

https://www.rsph.org.uk/about-us/news/nicotine—no-more-harmful-to-health-than-caffeine-.html

A person on methadone or Suboxone or any other opioid replacement is, in the medical community, not considered “addicted” to their replacement drugs. I worked with clients who lived perfectly healthy lives, jobs, family, vacations, for years, while on Suboxone. That’s dependence, not addiction.

Nicotine, like caffeine, has very beneficial effects for lots of people. It’s why people use nicotine and caffeine.

Also, only a tiny minority of people who vape never smoked.

Your link to the UCSF article is by a disgraced author who has resigned after having had papers retracted and sexual harassment suits settled.

Substituting vaping for smoking means not smoking. Smoking kills. Vaping doesn’t. And while it’s not best for everyone, vaping is the most successful smoking cessation tool available.

Most kids who vape regularly, like most vaping adults, either used to smoke or are trying to quit.

The only place I can find this image is from people who do vape and, especially, DO sell vaping products. Not a great sign IMO.

I don’t know if you work involves nicotine or you’re just an extreme Libertarian, but you’re clogging up this conversation with a lot of misinformation and disingenuous arguments.

Excellent points. Also, I think it’s important to remember that “addicted” is different from “dependent.” “Addiction” has a specific medical definition, which is basically “compulsive use in the face of negative consequences caused by that use.”

(I’ve included many links in this comment, but they’re not showing up and then the text gets mangled, so I’m taking them out. Happy to share with anyone curious.)

What, exactly, is “good recovery behavior?” As an addiction counselor, I’ve had many clients who were literally dying to know.

You should consider a healthier hobby than imagining things about people you don’t know just so you can judge them.

Save a good chunk of that FUCK YOU (well deserved by the pharma companies) for the government’s response to the cases of over-prescribing. People aren’t dying in record numbers because of the Sacklers (fuck them), but because of public policies which dramatically decreased pain medication availability and increase the
