If I’m not mistaken divorce rates tend to be higher in red states with lower average age of couples getting married and divorced, and lower divorce rates in blue states with higher average marriage ages.

I agree, in my opinion it’s more about the thrill of the taboo than the exact details of the relationship between the partners, at least for most. I’m sure there are still some for whom the scenario itself is enticing. Regardless of motivation though, if it floats your boat, go for it!
