I’m sure BMW might sell you an E60 M5 manual transmission for a jillion dollars, but that defeats the purpose of the visceral thrills for pennies on the dollar. SMG was state of the art at the time. It gets hated on but it was necessary. They have a certain character that I enjoy. They got much better when they got the DCT in 2008.

You can get to 610hp with just a tune. The difference in the SVR is mostly just tuning and it makes 575hp.

Change oil and send a sample to Blackstone Labs, especially if it’s a rod bearing eater like an e90 m3 or e60 m5 (i have one of each). Their analysis will tell you a lot more than you think, like silica content to determine if your air filters are filtering.
