While the video suggests 1 minute for microwaving sponges to sanitize them, I nuke mine for just a few seconds over 2 minutes (2:05 or so).

It's worth noting that some malware can behave differently in a virtual environment - it can be designed to lay low if it detects it is not in a 'native' OS. Always always always be careful with what software you run, and have SOME kind of AV protection where possible.
