I actually considered this car when I was shopping for a car about a year ago. They really shot themselves in the foot giving this car the engine that they did, the 1ZZ from the base Corolla instead of the 2ZZ that even the freaking Celica got! You know what else got the 2ZZ? The Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix. The

That’s an unfair statement. The Samurai is still made. In the rest of the world, it’s known as the Suzuki Jimny, and it conforms to all contemporary crash test standards. It’s sold in markets like Europe and Japan. Just like how the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris iA exist here in the US, they’re small but still keep their

What you refuse to understand is that no, it isn’t IMPOSSIBLE to increase the power in the BRZ/86. However, it is WHOLLY COST PROHIBITIVE TO DO SO. For example, Stohl racing, a well known tuner shop, tried the FA20DIT. They quickly found that yeah, it’s easy to say we “just” do this, and “just” do that. Between the

Of course not “even the side mirrors.” The powertrain/driveline, the suspension, the brakes. Maybe even chassis stiffening/bracing. Don’t be pedantic, it just shows that you know that your argument is on shaky ground and you need to misdirect since your point of view doesn’t hold water.

Give it 250-300 bhp, and you need to make everything stronger on the car, to handle that power. You can’t just throw 50% more power at a car, plus however you’re getting it, such as the weight of turbo and associated plumbing, and then not also significantly upgrade the suspension, brakes, etc. And then you’re looking

I’ve driven the car. I don’t have to live with it day to day, but I feel like a lot of the hate for it is overblown. At the end of the day, just enjoy having an economy car, drive it as long as possible, and sell it off for a few thousand to some kid on Craigslist that needs cheap transportation.

Don’t put Toyota up on a pedestal. They handled the recall as poorly as any auto manufacturer could. They only responded like they did because those were the terms of the class action lawsuit settlement, and even then, they are restricting the years to the ones that hit them in the wallet, leaving many other owners of

Then I would reply to you, that the market THAT I ALREADY MENTIONED for non-sunroof 1992-2000 Civics over ones equipped with sunroofs disproves your assertion. And any latest autocross results also disprove your 2nd false that no one takes their daily driver compact cars to the track. Look at the Pirelli World

Most people that want manuals want it for the performance aspect. A sunroof adds weight up high where you don’t want it, and flex. That’s why so many performance cars have “sunroof delete” as part of the package, and why the Civic CX or HX are more desirable than the EX when turning into project cars.

Ah. If that’s the case, then you need to hire an auto broker. Or, why do they need to send a salesman? They have couriers/runners that drive cars around for them, why can’t they just send that guy to drop it off, especially if they run another guy behind him to bring him back, and just leave the car at the other

I have NEVER had a dealership turn down giving me the keys to a used car to take for a PPI. I do sign paperwork showing that I am taking temporary . . . “control?”, maybe possession?, of the vehicle, but it’s just that my driver’s license and insurance are on file. There’s no mention of me purchasing it, any price,

Or just get a bike that you don’t have to tear down to its most internal components and replace them to get any performance. I could take ANY engine and then modify its rotating assembly, do headwork, add an aftermarket ignition, and then get more power out of it.

Haha, can this win COTD please? First comment on Jalopnik that I’ve wanted to star more than once, and I’ve been here for years.

People don’t want a Buell. People didn’t want a Buell when it was alive. The oldtimers that I see today have moved on from Harley to adventure bikes, even if never driven offroad. The bikes like The Honda Africa Twin are unbeatable and bringing droves of people into showrooms, even if they end up settling on something

Did you buy it new? I am wondering all of the people that could have bought an S2000 or an RX-8 in the early 2000's, and chose RX-8, are all kicking themselves. The S2000 has proven itself to be a much better car, and is worth so much more today that it’s unbelievable.

Yeah, exactly. You aren’t a customer, so it doesn’t count.

And on top of that, the manual transmission used to be the cheaper option, with better fuel economy AND better performance. New automatics get equal or superior fuel economy, with better emissions than the comparable car with a manual transmission. And from a performance standpoint, well DCT/DSG is the way to go over

Were they purchased new? Because if they weren’t purchased new, then you aren’t actually a customer of the manufacturer/dealership.

No one’s buying manual transmissions. Stop spreading this tired trope.

Um, pretty much anything standalone? AEM, Motec, etc.
