You could come up with a million of “If this happened.....” type statements, that is not a reasonable argument for anything.

Hot take
Ditto. We were taught that in high school ball and we were a tiny public school that won about 5 games a decade. I know the rule doesn’t come up in game action too often but it’s not THAT obscure. Pretty shocking to see an NFL official (with a clear view of the play) miss this call IMHO.
Strangely enough, I did know that rule. So much so, I was shocked the guy didn’t just fall on the ball on the end zone.
You’re pretty stupid if you think the refs shouldn’t know the very rules they’re paid to know and enforce. If you’re going to go this route, then it’s not a stretch to just say, who needs refs, or rules? Why even have football in the first place if the rules exist to be ignored whenever you feel it’s appropriate.
Uh... I did. I don’t know what’s going on or what kind of crazy world this is, but I’ve seen this rule enforced probably half a dozen times in the past 10 years. It’s not all that rare at all. I remember there was a Colts/Texans game where one team (I forget which) was penalized for batting the ball forward. I’m…
As long as the calls go your way, right?
I remember an illegal bat being called in the Helmet Catch Super Bowl. It’s an obscure rule and rarely used, but my initial reaction was that I felt like it should have been a penalty.
I take your point that the average football fan (or Deadspin contributor) may not know this rule off-hand, but it’s the officials’ job to know such rules and enforce them. The fact that such plays happen infrequently is a poor excuse. It’s what they get paid to do and they fucked it up pretty badly at a very…
I don’t know much about zoning laws, but I would hope my fucking lawyer does.
It’s not Young/Dilfer/Lewis’ job to know the rule book. It’s the ref’s job, and apparently he doesn't know it.
It’s not my job to know the rulebook, it’s the official’s. If it’s in the rules it should have been called.
I did, because once my team had a punter lose the ball, and kick it out of the endzone... which they said was illegal.
WEIRD FOR A REFEREE TO KNOW THE RULES, RIGHT?
I knew about this rule. It’s been on the books for years. When would it NOT be overt? When Suh ‘”accidentally” kicks somebody holding the ball, and he flies through the endzone?’
Anyone who watched the Steelers/Patriots game a few seasons back probably knew of the rule.
Yes, I did, because I have better mental capacity than a concussed Steve Young and a murderous Ray Lewis.
You’re so right the people that are paid to know the rulebook should get a pass imo

What military do the Europeans have that could be of any use? They’ve been downsizing for years. The Brits maybe, the French for special missions, but the Germans are committed pacifists too busy with welcoming 800,000 new residents who think having a beer is evil.
Remember when Obama laughed at the idea, advanced by Romney, that Russia was/is our greatest geopolitical foe? At least he didn’t call ISIL the jayvee team. Thankfully, Hillary Clinton reset relations with Russia. If she hasn’t, who knows what they’d be bombing today.
