"La La Land" is as self-assured & entertaining a resurrection of the movie musical as "The Godfather" was of gangster movies, "Jaws" of the thriller, and "Star Wars" of science fiction. Also: in it's own way it is just as good as any of those films. I know it's early, but we are witnessing the birth of a classic.

The Democrats need more like LBJ right now. 2017 ain't gonna solve itself.

Viewed through the prism of Trump's electoral college victory, "Jackie" is an unwitting elegy for 2016. Profound and deeply moving. Needless to say almost overwhelmingly sad.

Seems like Spielberg's "War Horse" & "Tintin" came out within weeks of each other. But, that's Spielberg. Guy can do anything.

I'm pretty sure James Caan is still pissed about it.

Saw "The Rookie" in Athens, GA. It only was a couple of other people and me in the theater. One, sitting way in the back, snored loudly through pretty much the entire movie (wise move). I remember thinking afterward that clearly Clint Eastwood was done as a director. Two years later he made "Unforgiven".

"Consider, if you will, that Schwarzenegger played a secret agent with no memory of his own dastardly past deeds 12 years before Matt Damon would do the same thing in The Bourne Identity."

Yup. The Republicans were a disaster in the early 2000's as a minority for California. They monkey wrenched everything (budgets, etc.) Same jive they continue to pull nationally only we solved it here. Adios!

I think I'm at that point now. I saw it again about a year or so ago at the American Cinematheque for the restored "Director's Cut" blu ray release. It actually played better than ever then (& looked great), but, enough is enough.

"Brains!!!"

For some reason I'll re-watch "1941" every few years and for some reason it never gets any better. Amazing cast with superb miniature work that never adds up to more than a wall of noise.

Well, on the bright side, at least he wasn't cast in the Broadway version.

Also, he was Agent Corley in John Frankenheimer's "Black Sunday".

She's a remarkable actress with astonishing range. Always great.

Michael Shannon is the greatest. Enjoy him while he's around.

Don't necessarily take my word for it, I'm deep in the bag for Warren Beatty's films, but I quite liked "Rules Don't Apply" (terrible title & all). The film has an odd rhythm to it and is one of those movies that gets better as it goes along (also seems to have more going on than one viewing might reveal). Has many

"Goddamn Margo, ain't their eyes ever gonna round out!?!" America 2016.

Every day it smells more & more like weed.

"I don’t think Trump can ruin the country all by himself."
