I’m somewhat with you, but it’s also been a LONG time. It’s been two and a half decades since the first episode of Evangelion, and the first English VO actors cast for FF7 characters were for Kingdom Hearts back in 2002, 17 years ago (which, if we’re going by precedence, means we should TECHNICALLY still be hearing

Stayed up late to watch this episode of the new Black Mirror Season that premiered today. Loved this episode. This reviewer missed the mark. Briefly 1) it’s intentionally structured like an improbable kids adventure film at the end (meaning a DISNEY channel movie) 2) it is saying something about how disposable we

I too was let down by MGSV, Sam, though not quite for the same reasons. I disliked the ending, or lack thereof, but not quite as much as I hated the open-ended world. It was very hyped up and kind of cool in trailers, but in execution, it ended up being miles upon miles of bland, empty desert (and/or jungle) with few

The worst thing about Luke keeping April’s existence a secret from Lorelai is that it only makes sense if they don’t interact offscreen. We see a bunch of times where Luke is about to tell her and then something happens so he doesn’t.

On the bright side, it created an environment where someone like me can actually sound clever and informed

I just don’t get this “we never get the Night King’s motivations and goals”. Uh, they want to destroy all life. What more do you need? I don’t see anyone bitching about Sauron not being a fully fleshed-out character character, and we never even SEE him.

I don’t know; it’s a pretty well-established fact (in horror, anyways) that explaining something diminishes it. Would the Night King really be improved if we found out that the reason he wanted to destroy all life is because his dad didn’t play catch with him as a child? He’s a force of nature, not a person.

I think Grant’s stuttery English thing is fine, and it works well in this movie, but the world didn’t really need 500 more generally meh rom coms where Grant plays the same bashful er/um leading man. I’m much happier with how Grant’s post-90s career has largely played against the “Hugh Grant type” with Grant cast as a

Some of the dialogue was a little on the nose- “Look how far the three of us have come...” Yeah, no shit, that’s what we were all thinking until you ruined it by saying it out loud.

We didn't just watch her have a mental breakdown, we sat and had a good laugh at it. Not humanity's finest moment, imo.

Agreed, the dialogue from the “clever” characters just doesn’t land anymore. Tyrion used to be witty, now he’s reduced to one eunuch balls/dwarf “joke” per episode, except it isn’t even a joke it’s just recitation of the fact that he’s a dwarf and Varys or Gray Worm has no balls.

Or hey, how about we not do that and just start accepting the fact that old things exist and look differently than they might have if they were created now.

Vivian was a cocaine addict, and one of Edward’s requirements was that she stay off drugs for the week. In the end of the original, Edward and Vivian don’t wind up together. He drops her back on Hollywood Boulevard and literally tosses her money into the gutter. The script ends with Vivian and Kit using the money to

Look, there’s nothing wrong or weird or bad about people breastfeeding other people’s babies. We’ve done it since the dawn of humanity (wet nurses, anyone??) It’s the fact that she did it without consent that feels so gross. It would be like if you kept kosher or halal and your day care provider just fed your kid regul

I think of the Farrelly’s as mostly meaning well, but they’re older white guy dolts who are out of touch with the real problems of the world. Even their raunchiest movies usually had a sweetness to them, like they were more gross-out comedies than they were mean-spirited edgy ones. Shallow Hal is awful, but I still th

Xan’s response: “Those guys were Mormons and Buckely knew it.” had me rolling on the floor laughing. Number one joke in a season full of great ones.

Obvious spoilers for the books …

The second one is one of my favorite reading moments of the last several years. I liked the first one, but was unprepared for him to broaden the world. And darken it significantly. The third was one of the most disappointing reads I've had in the last several years. Quentin's journey
