I'm lucky enough to work at a college that hasn't done much active shooter training baloney. But just the other week, the locksmith was working on my floor, changing all the locks in the classrooms to the kind with a push-button lock on the inside. He said it was so people could lock the door without going into the

Also, fuck all the Americans and Europeans who are following Osama bin Laden's game plan like dogs on a leash. Guys, you know the whole point of 9/11 was to make us angry enough to start a war in the Islamic world and ramp up our anti-Muslim bigotry, forcing Muslims to unite against us and form a pan-Islamic state,

I snapped one day at recess and punched the shit out of him because I was just so sick of it. He left me alone after that…

Oh shit. Yeah, I don't think we want to hear the whole story there, but best wishes.

I'm a college professor, and I think a lot of students these days are cargo culting college. They've seen all the college tropes in tv and movies — the parties, the protests, the romance, the one dramatic classroom scene — and they're trying to repeat what they've seen without really understanding what it's for.

I'm trying to come up with a Groucho Marx "Inside of a dog it's too dark to read" style joke here, and failing.

Nothing. This nerve pain in my arm makes it agony to use a mouse for more than a minute or two. I don't even know what to do with my evenings now except sit on the couch, watch TV, and obsessively refresh Disqus waiting for y'all to entertain me.

I fiddled around with that, and realized that A) I'd love to play it, but B) learning it would be a full-time job.

If you're playing FTL but not Kerbal Space Program, you're doing it wrong. KSP is hard, but it's hard because space is hard, not because the game is actively trying to screw you over with total bullshit.

Sounds about right.

Are these adult coloring books, or *adult* coloring books? Because the second one would be amazing.

True story: when I was a kid, Santa got me a Big Trak, a programmable tank toy. Amazing tech for 1980. Anyway, I started fiddling with it under the Christmas tree and Dad said "Let me help, Santa showed me how that worked when he stopped by last night."

Instead of organizing by type of media, I'm going to give emotional categories:

Holy shit Use of Weapons. It's a travesty that that Iain Banks and Iain M. Banks died without becoming two household names.

Open question: will they drop even more movies and rerun tv to pay for this?

Well, i can tell you iTunes now charges more to rent a movie than Blockbuster ever did, if that's any indication…

That's what the tooth fairy is for, to distract kids from horrible, horrible biology.

So people keep attacking Oliver Sava for his reviews which supposedly constantly attack white males with feminist social justice tirades when the show's not even about that.

Dunno about the reviewer, but I don't blame Jessica for freaking out when Jeri mentioned it.

I don't think Margot means that Kilgrave's wealthy-white-maleness enables him to use his superpower. I think the idea is that society is set up so that *all* wealthy white males have the power to get other people to do their bidding. Kilgrave's superpower is a metaphor for that.
