Except you’re missing the entire point. In situations with strangers it’s easy to put your guard up and ask for help. The author did just that. Most women are raped/assaulted by men they know and trust when their guard is down. Which is a large reason why do many rapes go unreported.

This x 1000. I grew up with a great uncle in my family who raped at least 2 of his sons and possibly a 3rd on top of molesting or attempting to molest several other family members, myself included. Damn near everyone has a “funmy uncle” but like you said, dudes love to act ignorant as fuck on the subject.

If you have to reassure someone a dude is ‘harmless’ it’s because he’s acting in a way that suggests he could do harm. That’s not ok and more guys need to confront that.

It’s amazing, really—men constantly place the burden of not being raped on women and then react negatively to measures women take to do just that if they seem extreme. But the thing is—just like a healthy mistrust of any group wielding institutional power—the “extremes” we go to are still not sufficient.

When u don’t personally experience a type of oppression it’s easy to discount and make excuses. There are so many men that will say the right things,but when it Comes time to really step up their true colors show.
