What doesn’t help with some of the troll messages is the sampling of bloodstains showing players falling to their deaths because they didn’t land on the outcroppings on the way down to the tutorial.

I saw the title of this article and I was all “Wait, what? Why are we hating Chris Pratt for being the voice of Mario?” and then I find out it’s because of a lot of political BS off-screen.

Now that you mention it, you’re right. ME2 IS set up like a heist movie.
By that logic, ME1 is mystery/buddy cop movie, and ME3 is a war movie (big surprise).
I remember watching video game cutscenes on YouTube for games that I couldn’t afford but really wanted to play. Almost half of the context was lost for me most of the time, but I only really realized it while watching Final Fantasy 9's cutscene compilations. I stopped after that, stuck with actually playing the games.
