I had a 2000 GS eclipse with the 4 cylinder engine! It was aweful on gas, and only produced 150 HP, with drum brakes in the rear but it was hell of a car! 5 speed manual was simply amazing, shifting was tight and positive with short throws, and the engine had decent torque. But my car came with a 4.5" fart can muffler…

I am going to have nominate my dad's euro spec 1.6 lt NA FSI engine 6-sp MT MK5 Jetta. It has 115 HP, and that engine wasn't even the lowest output engine they offered that year...

The Golf R is really not overpriced. Top of the range GTI Autobahn is $31k with manual, and base Golf R manual will be $35k. The extra $4k gets you 4WD, +30 tqs and +90 hps... Granted you do trade some luxury for performance.

Oh god, this is pure heroin right here. If the Golf R catches in the US, zhe Germans will know we also love ludacris cars on this side of the pond! I mean look at this beauty, I hope many people buy it!
