Only a 5 year old Cayman/Boxster really fits into the price range we’d expect a new MR-2 in, though. (~30-40k)

Now the only question is if they’ll be turbocharged or not. I really, really hope they’re not.
Am I the only one that finds just about every Mercedes since about 2000 absolutely hideous? I’m sure they’re nice cars when they work, but I just couldn’t ever get over the styling. The interiors are too ‘blobby’ and the exteriors look like they’ve melted.
A 30 year mortgage costs nearly twice as much in interest than a 15 year mortgage. When I bought my house a few years ago, total interest on a 30 year mortgage was about 66% of the purchase price, a 15 year, closer to 40%.
If you’re parked on a slope your tires should be turned into the curb. Parking brakes fail.
A much better reason to leave a car unlocked is that a smashed window or a cut convertible top costs hundreds, while the pennies in the cupholder do not.
Agree. I was there today, they didn’t even let us in our normal campsite because the entire back side of the racetrack is flooded. I’ve never seen it this bad.
Even by that logic, this is still a sedan. It has a clearly defined B pillar and full size rear seats and the roof does not end at the B pillar.
Replacement (mechanical) parts for an RX-7 are dirt cheap though, and they’re quite easy to work on, compared to just about anything with similar performance. An entire engine is only ~$5k. The hardest part about keeping one up is the cosmetic stuff, interior in particular.
How ‘Turbo’ does it feel? I generally hate turbocharged engines, but I like that it has a straight six, and I could live with a turbo if it’s at least obviously so (huge turbo lag adds character). A turbo that increases power numbers I won’t be able to use, doesn’t appreciably change the character of the engine, and…
Ehh, only true to a point. For most people, they’d have to save ten or even a hundred times their normal income to generally be classified as ‘wealthy’.
A $100k car won’t even make a dent in the cost of beachfront property. Not even if you buy one EVERY YEAR.
I’d say spend ~$8K less on a new 86. They start around $25k before discounts. Like all other cars, they only offer color at a huge price premium, then say no one wants color.
Second gear in the manual redlines at about 59MPH, so that really hurts the 0-60 time. It’s possible some publications just fudge it at that point.
You can spec a new Miata up to about $38k.
Insurance in big cities is crazy. I pay about $550 a YEAR to insure a BRZ/86. Lots of people pay that much or more every month.
Honestly, I’d be happier with an electric Boxster than a 4-cylinder one. Electric power is at least interesting. Spending ~$70k on a 4-cylinder is just depressing.
And yet any serious medical emergency still uses helicopters instead.
I doubt you can do it for a car as recent as an F355, but legally speaking, I don’t think there’s anything you aren’t allowed to replace when repairing a car.
You can theoretically make a car much, much faster (and less safe) when you don’t need a human driver. Really, AI controlled cars make a lot of theoretical sense for F1. If you’re trying to build the fastest race car possible, removing the driver is a big benefit.
