Yeah no there’s exhausting killboxes and frustrating immersion breaking mass murdering of hundreds of armed guards. Last of Us did most things right, and is arguably my favorite game—but it’s portrayal of violence outside of cutscenes largely subtracts from the narrative arc.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Crysis 3 and... a couple CoD games also come to mind.
I miss Bungie’s beautiful SP campaigns. These story addons really do nothing for me.
Take note Kotaku: Do more shit like this.
This is what gets me, art teams spend countless hours laboring over all this... they do crunch and produce such beautiful setpieces. Then all this running around and massacring each other, and just another few pretty pictures on their resume.
Mafia III isn’t just the best sandbox game of all time for me, it’s the most historically and narratively important one there’s ever been in gaming.
Just be honest about the whole getting paid to write consistently and positive things about Ubisoft. Half the time you come back around here when you’re not dinking aroud with the NYT it’s to write about this game.
Oh, it’s only Switch. Well then, moving on.
The Gears games have always had a prolific and small sized pro-circuit of new and returning players. It’s not a niche thing really, it’s been around since the first game and they’ve been competing every year at several venues.
Have they fixed the fact that it’s a mediocre sequel to a mediocre game with predatory business practices built in?
I hope UbiSoft is paying you well for all this Stephen, haha
It would be pretty cool if they stopped referring to Wildstar as Wildstar Online.
CS can and is an RPG, WC3 and other server mods for all versions of CS with persistent stats, custom maps and abilities, skins and animations everything. This was a big part of my young adult life!
I wish this genre would go away.
That’s funny, I think Conviction and Blacklist are not only the strongest mechanically, but narratively too. I loved them to bits.
Same, and customer support did nothing.
It really is a f*cking shame what happened with that studio and the awful F2P game they were more or less forced to make.
I feel like I’m the only person psyched and ready for them to go back to this. I really enjoyed WaW they seem to do better with historic settings.
I mean, have you played Wolfestein: The New Order?
