Well, yeah. But Villeneuve is a better director than Abrams. So lazy choice or not, I'm hopeful. Who would have been better really? Villeneuve proved he can handle characters well (all his films), a complicated story well (Incendies), and sci-fi well (Arrival).

Chase is the one who doesn't get what's funny about him on that show. Harmon does. Now, of course Chevy Chase looks like a buffoon, but he's funny doing it. He really sounds like grandpa not getting it.
