I like that too - Lucy is trying to get him to like her again, and he's not playing second fiddle. It's cold, but then he knows what Lucy did.

It's not meant to be taken literally…
Insert "phrasing" reference.
So it would repeat the same plot points over and over without actually answering any yes/no questions?
That one's due to city planning.
Great. Now I'm disappointed.
The answer for that is easier than trying to pick apart "what makes people inherently mean" discussion. People go to Twitter because our cultural points touch on it again and again.
"Dammit, Dazzle!" Could work in either scenario!
That "Help, my purse!" made me laugh. That whole scene was awkward.
What I think I mean:
Insult is not dissent. When I think of dissenting, I think of disagreement with a thought or argument. Personally attacking the person's looks distracts from the disagreement of the argument.
Your Rush Limbaugh example is a good one - by calling him a big, fat idiot, you give him the means to not…
Sort of new to this show. Watched two episodes this season - can someone catch me up on a point:
Cookie doesn't ever turn "off," right? Like even in the church she just had a laundry list of ready insults. Was she the same in Season 1? Just - constantly pecking?
I will. In the future!
…….
Monday. I'll watch it on Monday with the rest of the masses.
I was pretty…
I was happy…
I would love to…

Oh, I wouldn't try to tell someone they *can't* insult someone.
I wouldn't be surprised if all that happened - you are dying, after all.
No. I just read the magazine when I get it. Yeah, I just subscribe. Though if the "Letters to the Editor" are any indication of the online debate…ugh. When did everyone get so vicious?
Oh wait - I grew up with the internet. I know exactly when everyone got so vicious.
This "truth" never fails to sadden me. And I'm not the best judge of this sort of thing, because AV Club is really the only place I post with any consistency (I like the puns).
Yes, but are we the viewers not fatigued by the insult? We want our political figures to actually disagree with examples so we see where they stand and if we agree with them. It's fun to listen to them hurl personal attacks at each other, but only for a little while.
Is it though? If you were to engage me in a debate over an issue, and all I did was point out your physical flaws, that neither speaks to the issue nor moves the matter forward. It's just me being unpleasant.
*sniffle* I can't tell anymore…
