I’m truly curious about what her rapping would sound like in her natural accent.

Ever smelled stale pee?

Agreed. My sister had a boyfriend from Louisiana who lived here in Trinidad for a while. He told us that peeing in someone’s yard was a sign of respect. Needless to say many Friday nights at our house required a Saturday morning wash-down.

In my neck of the woods these are cane-rows (Caribbean=cane). I had them from the time my strands were long enough up until my mother relaxed my hair in my teens. So we’re talking 1978 till about 1990 or so. Novel style indeed!

Grievous spelling error aside.

I get that all the time when I travel, which, y’know, is par for the course. And it’s pretty cool to to figure out from which parts of the globe people originate.

A niggling peeve of mine is people who use nationality to describe ‘race’. Can we do away with that already?! (race ie, least I get buried under the moral outrage)

I’ve said her singing reminds me of the scene in My Fair Lady when Henry Higgins fills Eliza’s mouth with marbles.

On behalf of ALL Trinis EVERYWHERE thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou Meghan TraiNO for bringing soca music to the world. We couldn’t have done it without you!

I’m from the West Indies and our charter specifically, totally and completely dictates the do’s and don’ts of weave wearing

Totally gif-worthy if can find it

Article spells wining right! Actually calls it wining and not twerking (ugh)

As much as I wish I had a snappy comeback for this, our society does indeed promote condescending, misogynistic, time-warped assholes like this. However #notalltrinis . I've been all over Facebook writing about and defending this poor woman. I am actually mortified to see that it has made international news.

This has become huge news locally with some women’s groups forming protests in front of City Hall today and astounding backlash across all social media platforms.

I just this minute finished reading this amazing post that somewhat relates to this article. Who knows what we can accomplish in a few years?

I will pay real, legitimate money to anyone who could confirm they have seen her on a real live newscast. Anyone?

Given my proximity to South America (Trinidad is kissing cousins with Venezuela) it’s only a matter of time before we report our first case. Thankfully I have no intentions of reproducing. That said, the virus itself doesn’t sound like a lick of fun :(

Both BC and AR are coming to Carnival in Trinidad next week. I wonder if RK would make the trip? I'd actually leave home and take time away from writing my dissertation to go stalk them.
