When I worked at Boeing, safety was EVERYWHERE. They’d had some issues with safety in the past, but fortunately they had come to their senses and realized that lawsuits aren’t the only reason to strive for a safe work environment.

This isn’t really surprising. For the most part, these shipyards have to go from idle to full steam ahead with the stroke of a pen. The experienced people often move on from the business because they can’t count on consistent work, so you end up with inexperienced workers doing uninformed and unsafe things.
