Ugh. I had also watched an interview years ago with James Lipton where he said the best lesson his mom taught him was to throw rocks at the kids who were bullying him.

Yup. They are adept at pushing the pity button.
I’m not entirely sure why this is, but I found highlighting became much more effective for me when I followed it up by tracing a black perimeter around the edge of the highlighting with a ballpoint. I can only guess it was some combination of taking the extra time (halting for a while after choosing each highlight to…
And how long was she dead and no one even noticed? Poor woman.
The mental state of someone who is in a domestic abuse situation is not one of clear, rational thinking. Abusers are very skilled at convincing their victims that they are worthless apart from them. That they earned the beating they received.
Abused partners stay for a lot longer than that all the time for no hope of a payday. Not sure why once there’s money involved you’re stepping all over yourself to proclaim that it’s the real motivation. A year is nothing. A marriage to a super famous actor? That will help you try to overlook those moments when he…
If you actually understood the cycle of abuse you’d understand that it’s incredibly common for women to marry their abusers even after months or years of abuse. And with her being surrounded by people like the guy in the texts convincing her that it’s not so bad and he feels so sorry, it makes perfect sense she…
The thing with Gorillas is they don’t even need to be mean to you to fuck you up. They’re just that strong. Even if all Harambe was doing was dragging the little kid around by the leg, that would be enough to harm him or even kill him, if it were allowed to continue unchecked.
Really frustrated by the flack the mom is getting. When I took my toddler to the zoo I was super careful but I expected there to be no way for kids to accidentally fall in. Like serious enclosures. Kids are slippery as fuck and will fall into shit without proper barriers.
That’s infuriating. I said this elsewhere in the thread, but it’s the Just World Fallacy again and again.
The thing is, even if he was being kind, and in an alternate version of events, the kid would have gotten out okay without Harambe being killed, no one can be 100% certain that that would have been the case. I mourn the loss of animals in situations like this, as I’m very passionate about conservation, and the Western…
Starred for “level 10 sass”. Excellence.
Even if he was being kind, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t inadvertently hurt the boy.
Sometimes, but I’m fortunate in that she’s not the disappear-in-a-flash type. She likes to stick close to us, but I chalk that up more to her personality than my (admittedly phenomenal) parenting;)
This is insightful, thank you! The commenter was saying the same, that male gorillas can and do kill infant gorillas as a show of dominance.
This is a TED talk from a woman who explains why she married her abuser.
Well then you are extraordinarily dramatic, or you didn’t look at the texts. Both maybe.
Guess he meant the kind of little lost boy capable of repeatedly overpowering and injuring a grown woman. You know, that kind!
Reading those texts makes me sad. If they are actual texts and not faked, they show he was abusive to her for a long time and people were pushing her to stay with him. It sounds like he was either drunk or on drugs when he did abuse her.
