Five years after this review, I bet not one of the naysaying Vernor Vinge haters below have published a book OR won the Hugo Award 5 times. Vinge spins a good yarn, the comments below are laughable and full of envy. Read him and form your own opinion. And my opinion is that A Deepness in the Sky is a masterpiece.
