It all started with Google circles. Do not remember exactly what but there is a logic to it.

Real time updates will be a pain but if both of you are on iOS then it will be simpler with a single iCloud account.

It is via Android and on the web as well. Android phones now offer multiple accounts and I am making the most of it. Contacts, Calendars and Data is backed-up from both accounts for easy access for either of us as and when needed.
